“Hello friends and neighbors…” I’ve always loved that greeting. It comes from some old country TV or radio show, I suppose. Like the Grand Ole Opry or The Louisiana Hayride. It’s just such a friendly, wholesome greeting. So, I use it here to welcome you.
For those who don’t know me, I’m Gary Rebholz. I’m a software development professional by trade, and a songwriter, guitarist, musician by passion.
I’ve spent a career teaching everyone from beginners to advanced experts how to use complicated software tools for audio and video production. I’ve learned what works when teaching complex subjects and what doesn’t. And I know how to present that material to people at the very beginning of their learning.
Now I’m bringing my teaching skills together with my passion for music, and in particular the guitar. This site shows a bit of my personal musical pursuits, but really focuses mostly on sharing what I know with you.
I hope you feel welcome here. Take some time to look around. Listen to a few of my recordings. Watch a couple videos. But then, head over to the blog section and start your own journey toward being a guitar player. You can do it. I want to help.
At the start of 2021, after the difficult year 2020, and looking ahead to more difficult times to come, like many others, I wanted to give an extra effort to making the world a better place.
In February, 2021, I kicked of the You on Guitar project. It’s a personal quest to help 1,000 people learn to play guitar. I want to help you learn to play guitar in order to improve your life through the joy of a never-ending journey full of challenge and reward.
I’m particularly interested in helping those who have always wanted to, but never have learned, those who have tried to learn without success, and those who have put it off for far too long.
I understand, I really do. I’ve been playing for many years. For most of those years I just didn’t seem to improve. To learn new things and achieve the level I longed to be at. My frustration was just a different level of the same thing you might be feeling.
I feel like I’ve finally broken through. Over the past several years, I at last learned how to learn to play guitar. With a purpose. I’ve made vast improvements in my own abilities. I try not to look back with regret at the time I wasted struggling to play the way I wanted to. I can catch myself almost wishing the struggle hadn’t have happened.
But my own struggle has helped me to understand the frustration of not making progress. And I understand for many of you, that means never getting started. Or starting, but sputtering and never getting anywhere.
More importantly, that struggle–and the personal success I’ve had as a result of it–has helped me understand how to help you learn to play guitar. So now let’s face the struggle together.
The You on Guitar project aims to help you. You definitely can succeed at playing the guitar. You just need to get started and to have some help along the way.
Head over to the blog section of this site to find posts that provide information and inspiration.
And stay tuned as I work to develop other training resources to help you along on your journey. Most of all, have fun. You can learn to play guitar. Let’s begin!
